Our History

Welcome to St Joseph's R.F.C Cardiff Official Website. The St Joseph's RFC we have today was founded in 1959, but there are records of St Joseph's teams playing as far back as the 1930's.

Whilst in the Cardiff and District league, we boasted four sides and won 4 Mallet cups and Ron Lucock cup trophies. In time players went on to be selected for Welsh Districts and being capped in the process. Players such as Adrian Hadley and Michael Budd also started their careers at St Joseph's R.F.C, achieving welsh youth caps and senior welsh caps also representing Bridgend and Cardiff R.F.C. In 1984 St Joseph's achieved W.R.U status taking the club to the next level. In our time at this level we have  reached 3 east district finals, winning in the season 2013/14 and have been runners up in the silver ball trophy. In 1997 our junior and mini section was founded and it continues to be the foundation for the present and future of St Joseph's R.F.C.

St Joseph’s RFC currently runs 2 senior teams and a youth (under 19) section. We have an established mini/junior section with WRU qualified (CRB Checked) coaches for every team, with many of the current senior players having come through mini section, its importance is evident to the survival and success of the rugby club.

We currently have space for new players in all our age groups! Experience is not needed; the only requirement is to have fun whilst learning how to play the game of Rugby! Children (boys and girls) can join us from the age of 6 to play Tag Rugby. Tag is a great game that allows younger players to concentrate on their ball skills and teamwork first.

Come along on a Sunday morning and let your child try out a few sessions before making a decision. Please make sure they are wearing old clothes to train as getting dirty is part of the game.

Our aim is to encourage young players to develop and enjoy the game of rugby.
